SPEECH BY AMB. WILSON BABANGIDA AGBOTI, CO-FOUNDER & CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, COMMUNITY IMPACT AFFINITY (CIA), AT THE LAUNCH OF CIA’S NATIONWIDE MEDIA TOUR TO COMMEMORATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025

Date: March 7, 2025
Venue: Abuja, Nigeria

Distinguished CIAhub, Esteemed Media Partners, Fellow Advocates for Gender Equality, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with great honor and enthusiasm that I convene the officially launch of the Community Impact Affinity (CIA) Nationwide Media Tour in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2025. This tour is not just a celebration of the remarkable contributions of women in our society but also an advocacy initiative aimed at amplifying the voices of women in sustainable development and national security.

This year, under the theme “Women and Digital Innovation:  Accelerating Actions on Security and Sustainable Growth,” we are emphasizing the crucial role of women in leveraging technology and innovation to build a more secure and sustainable future. Women are not just beneficiaries of development—they are active agents of change, and their involvement in governance, security, and economic growth is indispensable for national progress.

As we embark on this one-week media tour, our objective is to raise awareness, foster meaningful discussions, and advocate for policies that ensure the inclusion of women in security strategies, governance, and technological advancements. Through our engagements with various media houses across the country, we hope to challenge outdated stereotypes, address gender disparities, and highlight the undeniable impact of women in national and global security frameworks.

This initiative would not have been possible without the dedication of our CIA SDG Ambassadors, our partners, and the esteemed media houses who have opened their platforms to host these critical conversations. Today, we kick off this journey with Armed Forces Radio 107.7 FM and Eagles FM 102.3 in Abuja, setting the stage for similar engagements in other states where CIA has a presence.

To our listeners and stakeholders, this is a call to action. We must work collectively to create an environment where women are empowered, protected, and given equal opportunities to contribute to nation-building. Let us recognize that inclusive security and sustainable development are only achievable when women are given the space to lead, innovate, and thrive.

I encourage everyone—governments, private sector leaders, civil society, and individuals—to join us in this movement. Let us support women, invest in their potential, and acknowledge their unwavering resilience in shaping a safer and more sustainable world.

Once again, I extend my gratitude to everyone present and to all our partners championing this cause. Together, let us celebrate, advocate, and drive lasting change for a more inclusive and secure future.

Thank you, and may this campaign inspire transformative action across Nigeria and beyond!
