Wilson Babangida Joins the International Society of Diplomats; reassures commitment to working alongside fellow council members to develop innovative strategies for global peacebuilding


 I am deeply honored to announce to the public my official induction into the prestigious National Council of Emissaries of the International Society of Diplomats (ISD). This significant milestone was marked during the ISD's Inaugural Assembly, Induction Ceremony, and Banquet held on December 17, 2024, in Abuja. I am equally humbled to have been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Security, a role that carries profound responsibility in advancing peace and security through international cooperation.

The event, themed "Diplomacy and International Cooperation: Pivotal to Sustainable Peace and Development," was a resounding success. It brought together a distinguished gathering of diplomats, policymakers, academics, and business leaders. Among the esteemed dignitaries in attendance were:

  • Prof. Edet Bassey Ekpenyong ,Country Director/Head of Mission in Nigeria, International Society of Diplomats.
  • His Excellency Dr. Isa Yuguda, CON, Former Minister of Aviaton and Former Governor of Bauchi State;
  • Usani Uguru Usani, Former Minister of Niger Delta; and
  • Her Excellency Amb. Hanne, ISD Ambassador to Finland.
  • Other distinguished guests include representatives of the Nigerian Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, representative of the Honorable Commissioner of Police, FCT Cp Olatunji Disu, ISD Country Director to Togo, Amb. Daniel Tasie, Ambassador of DRC to Nigeria Pascaline Gerengbo Yakivu and Dr. Tunde Asaolu, the Deputy Secretary General, African Affairs, International Society of Diplomats.  

Among the inductees are notable figures like Nollywood celebrity Tonto Dikeh, Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, Prof. Fasina Abayomi Sunday, Vice Chancellor Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Prof. John Enow Tabotndip, the Provost of College of Diplomatic Studies and International Relations, Prof. Aliyu Idris, SA to the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Umar Ibrahim Liman of Board of Trustees of the UN International Peace and Governance Council (UN-IPGC), Dr. Alexander Faranpojo of Virtues Christian Center,  Hon. Richard Oladimeji of Nigeria-Canada Police Foundation, Dame Dr. Joy Nky Okoro, the first female Director and Ag. General Manager of the FCT Water Board, Mr. Ayuba Irmiya Vandi, COO Nkafamiya Rescue Mission, Dr. Kingsley Nwokoma, President of the Association of Foreign Airlines & Representatives in Nigeria (AFARN), Queen Jodie Frank, Miss Africa United Nations, Mr. Umar Isa Yuguda, former MD First Waves Network ltd, to mention a few.

The ceremony featured inspiring speeches, including a keynote address that highlighted the critical role of diplomacy in fostering global peace and development. A thought-provoking address from the Secretary General, H.E Amb. Manuel Fernandez on strengthening international partnerships for peace and development further enriched the program, underscoring the event's importance in addressing Nigeria and the global challenges.

Recognition and the presentation of awards of excellence were among the key highlights of the banquet. The esteemed awardees on the list included H.E. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Commodore (Dr.) Adebamiji Kunle Olulowo, Senator Tony Umeh, and Dr. Ahmed Isah (Brekete Family), among others.

In my induction remarks with the press, I emphasized the necessity of collaboration in addressing contemporary security threats. As Vice Chairman, Committee on Security, I am committed to working alongside fellow council members to develop innovative strategies for global peacebuilding. I firmly believe that the power of diplomacy, combined with collective action, is essential in achieving lasting solutions to today’s complex security issues.



I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the International Society of Diplomats for this recognition and to my colleagues, mentors, and well-wishers whose unwavering support continues to inspire my journey. This appointment is not just an honor but a call to action—to strengthen global partnerships and champion initiatives that promote peace, justice, and sustainable development.

As we look to the future and a brighter year 2025, I am confident that the work of ISD and its National Council of Emissaries will leave an indelible mark on global diplomacy and security. I am eager to contribute my expertise and energy to this noble cause.
