Wilson Babangida Agboti reacts after attending the National Economic Dialogue organized by Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG)

"Gentlemen of the press, this morning I attended the National Economic Dialogue event with a theme 'Nigeria's Economic Future: 25 Years of Democracy and Beyond.

While I commend the guest speakers on their valuable contributions and the efforts of the organizers, I wish to say that I was a bit disappointed with the organization in terms audio quality and presentation.

For me this a critical and pivotal event in the history of our nation Nigeria and more of such is highly needed. As we reflect on 25 years of democracy, we find ourselves at a crossroads, grappling with the harsh realities of our current economic situation. The challenges we face today—rising inflation, economic hardship, and the eroding purchasing power of our people—demand urgent and decisive action.

Our beloved Nigeria, a nation rich in resources and potential, is currently experiencing one of the most difficult economic periods in recent memory. Inflation has reached alarming levels, with the prices of basic goods and services soaring beyond the reach of many citizens. Families across the country are struggling to make ends meet, and the dream of prosperity seems increasingly out of reach for too many.

This economic hardship is not just a series of statistics; it is the lived experience of millions of Nigerians who wake up every day to the harsh reality of dwindling incomes, rising unemployment, and an uncertain future. It is the anguish of parents who cannot afford school fees, the desperation of youths who cannot find jobs, and the anxiety of retirees whose savings are rapidly losing value.

Yet, in the face of these challenges, we must not lose hope. Our democracy, hard-won and precious, gives us the platform to voice our concerns, to demand accountability, and to insist on better governance. Now more than ever, we need our leaders to rise to the occasion.

I call on the current administration to take decisive and bold steps to rescue our economy and restore confidence in the future of our nation. We need policies that address the root causes of inflation, stimulate growth, and create jobs. We need an economic strategy that is inclusive, that prioritizes the needs of the most vulnerable, and that harnesses the immense potential of our youth.

This is not the time for half-measures or temporary fixes. We need a long-term vision that will guide us through these challenging times and lay the foundation for a prosperous future. A future where every Nigerian, regardless of their background, can thrive and contribute to the growth and development of our nation.

Let us remember that our strength as a nation lies in our resilience, our unity, and our unwavering belief in the promise of a better tomorrow. Together, we can overcome these challenges and build an economy that works for all.

Thank you, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
